W124 Heater blower died - any advice?

A few weeks ago my heater blower seemed to have less puff than usual. Today it died altogether (convenient timing with the cold weather just arrived!).

Can any advise if its usual for a heater blower to fail on a 6 year old 124 or should I be looking for another problem? also are there any quick checks I can do?

Why not check it with a meter. No power in = no go!
Also try giving it a sharp bang when switched on high. If it runs then the brushes / motor are suspect.
