Hi all

Need some help with my E300 W124, inside instrument lights haved stopped working. I checked the fuse box no problem there. On the fuse box diagram it states:

Instrument lights, rear number plate lights, light buzzer. Both rear number plate lights and light buzzer are still working

As you know when you turn the car lights on the instrument lights turn on too, is there a connection / sensor behind the light switch?

Thanks

The left hand knob (push to reset trip meter) on the cluster is also a dimmer turn it clock wise.

i think wireman means the trip mileage reset button on the left side of the instrument cluster. if you turn it, it acts as a dimmer for the instrument panel lights

That makes sence, my little boy was playing in the car. Boys being boys he was playing with all the switches and I remember him playing with that particular one.

Stay tuned, I'll update you guys tomorrow.

The mileometer knob that you turn for the instrument lights can have poor contacts, and they do need a few sharp turns.

If this fails the the litle red fuse in the rear of the cluster could have blown

Thanks again, does that fuse control both the lights in the cluster and the lights that eliminate the control switches

It just pulls out. It's a tight fit but with a bit of effort you can carefully lever it out. Then you will see the speedo cable at the back which twists off to give you more slack on the other cables to get them off.

Hi TV,

I managaged to get the cluster off first time over the weekend. There was a little red fuse (to the right just behind the speedometer) is that the one? It looked like it was fixed in, does it screw off of just pull it off. It's a flat head so could be something else.

The red fuse I believe comes out in the same way as the bulbs, that is a ½ turn and it lifts out

Its W124 E300 24v 1992 Saloon

Just to recap, I have no lights either on the main control panel or the cluster. The only lights I have when I turn the switch on is from the CD player.

Thanks
