w124 intermittent fan

my w124 200te has a prob with the fan when i turn it on sometimes it works and blows air but most of the time it does not. if i leave it switched on it may start working at some point . when it works the aircon is not very cold but i suspect i need to service and recharge it but it is the fan that concerns me any ideas people?

The fans on the 124 do need replacing from time to time, the bearings go down and the brushes lose contact, do a search here there are lots of threads on how to do it.
