Hi All

My 1990 W124 estate only came with one key, and its a strange type ! Question-can normal key cutters reproduce these or is it Mercedes only ?

Thanks.

What do you mean by 'strange type' ? I had mine copied at a local cobblers, no problem.

I could do with a new fob for the alarm though.

Difficult to describe! All my other cars have always had the standard type keys with serrated edges. This key is straight edged, with the pattern carved into the faces of it.

The blades are too wide for normal key cutters, but Timpson's now have jigs wide enough to cut them and keep blanks in stock.

Went to the dealer today. Yes, they can supply a key, but I need logbook and I.D. (Still waiting for the logbook unfortunately.) It will take 5 working days to get as they now all have to be cut in Germany, apparently !

A new key from MB won,t be worn, a key cut from your own key will be worn from the start and as the 124's are suffering from locks wearing out (mainly due to age) I think an MB key would be the best bet.
