W124 number plate light not working

Hello all,
The near side number plate light isn't working despite having replaced the bulb. A search of previous posts suggests this could be a wiring problem but I can't find anything that tells me the solution. Could anyone advise?

This is normally just corrosion or oxidization of the contacts,,,have you tried cleaning the contacts, I believe that they are both wired in parallel, also check the push on spade connectors for a good contact

They're wired separately - one is on one side of the bulb fail system & the other, the other. So a bad number plate bulb will show on the bulb fail system

I'd suspect corroded wires / bulb holder or a broken wire leading into the tailgate at the hinge. That's a standard problem with very old W124 estates
