Have a look on you tube for a video on how to remove, very straight forward job, it’s basically a push fit,

And these make removal easier.

They do, with a note of caution though as you can crack the clear plastic screen if you're not careful.. I've seen it a few times. If you can get up and under pushing from behind causes less pressure on the plastic screen(although it's a challenging access route)

Yes, I should have advised caution.

And I try always to do these "interior trim' jobs on a nice hot day when the plastic is more supple.

Merc88 I have replaced the gears in my speedo it was one of the first jobs i had to do And all because the trip was pushed in while the car was on the move .I found that the best way to get the speedo head to come free,, is to do it on a hot day . And to get the unit out i made 4 plastic inserts to push in the top and bottom where the white holding clips are located on the case to hold it firm .You do need a pair of pulling tools to do it,, or get two made from original sizes .Dont just push a hook inside it will damage the dashboard in some way or other . Once it free you need to get your hand in the rear and remove the speedo drive cable .This will give you more room to remove the bulb holders it is important to take a picture of bulb locations and to mark them up before you remove them . Reason for this is,, if the bulb is put in the wrong hole, then when you have a fault you will be checking out ABS and it is the bulb for charging light thats in the wrong location . Also above wont have anything to do with the speedo not working after battery died .What did not work after the battery died ? was it the lights or the speedo itself ?
