Getting a light metallic rattling when moving.

It comes from the rear of the car underneath somewhere and its only noticeable when the windows are open.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had already had the rattle so I know where to go looking.

Without being able to see or hear, I'd suspect the CAT heat shield.

Quite a common problem and most people just cut the hea shield off hope that no neighbourhood pussies get welded to the underside of the car :D

The cat heat shield is there to prevent your car setting the grass underneath it on fire, if you park on long, dry grass. So, take it off if you like, but as with most things on a Merc, its there for a reason.

Talking **** the heat shield is there to stop rapid cooling of the cat and to keep the cat at operating tempretures when did you ever hear of cars setting the grass on fire, when cars never had cats fitted on them .I think you are on the grass.

Nah, the dog gaurd isn't metal, its just a canvas mesh, so it wouldn't rattle.

Cats heat up more than a non-cat exhaust (or dogs), that's why they have a shield over them.

Grass ? Birkenhead? Its the grass capital of the north west (cue ganga weed picture !!)

Please all accept my heartfelt thanks for such a good laugh !!!

I'm sitting here trying to think of a witty response but you have covered all the bases !!

Seems boring now to go + talk about actually fixing it !!
