Happy New Year to you all!

I hope someone can help concerning a rear wiper issue on my W124 E280 (95) Estate. The two dash switches for the rear wiper are not operating.

The left hand side switch should squirt water and wipe (no motor noise can be heard from washer bottle) and the switch to the right should provide the choice of either intermittent wipe or constant wipe. Only the intermittent setting is operational and the fuse looks fine as well.

Hope someone has an answer!

Best regards

Simon

Does it wipe when you have the front wiper on and you select reverse?

Thanks for the reply.

I am sure the rear wiper no longer works when reverse is selected and front wiper is on.

Thanks

Mmm .... I had this on my 230te, together with the soft close and number plate bulbs failing - got it repaired by MB Edgware Road ( fantastic Main dealer) for £836.00 which involved the replacement of the rear loom.

It is a known problem that on the estates the wiring can break around the hinge points.

With a volt meter it is easy to check, but not so easy if you are not used to working with these things

If the wiper and the washer don't work then I'd suspect the wiper motor

Pull the rear carpet panel & get a meter on the motor. If it's getting volts disconnect the motor & check resistances. Also check the relay in the tailgate clicks when your assistant presses the wash button

The washer is wired through the wiper motor. When the wiper motor fails the washer pump gets no volts. Bad wiper motor = no wash + no wipe

Hello Nick
My rear washer has ceased to work too - the wiper works fine (now - it used to be quite slow but I have taken it apart, cleaned it and completely re-greased it and it's now perfect) and all other electricals at the rear work fine... Do you reckon that the little washer pump on the rear reservoir has died? The wiring that goes in at the hinges of the tailgate all looks in perfectly good order too.
Talk of 'wiring looms' and 'relays' is far too technical for me! So I'm hoping it might be the pump as that looks easy to replace... I can only find front windscreen washer pumps for a W124 on eBay though - can I use a front one at the rear?
Many thanks

rear wiper motor removal...

Hi Marius (or anyone else...), just hoping to get a few tips on how to remove the rear wiper motor...
Have removed the 10mm nuts & prised open the circlip but it just seems to be stuck on something & really don't want to try too hard & risk cracking glass...
any ideas
~ Mark
