I want to fit a microphone somewhere near the sun visors, to get my phonre talking to my new bluetooth head unit, and the sensible place to run the wire is behind the A pillar trim.

I'll probably run the wire behind the glovebox and up the passenger side trim.

So, how much of the car do I have to take to bits to remove it, and how is it fastened on?

TIA

hi Tony,

i've done this as i fitted new A pillars.

i've put details on how to remove below. HOWEVER you could just get by by removing the door seal trim and poking the wire into the A pillars without removing them for just a wire. you should be able to prise it away at the top of the trim aswell to poke the wire down behind. I've done this in 3 cars in the past without actually removing the A pillar.

BUT here are the pillar removal instructions anyway! ;

you need to remove the door seal from around the A pillar area.

Then, its just a case of pulling on them to take them out. Its hard to explain, but they are just clipped in. The clips are quite tight. When they are loose it will lift upwards and outwards.

Be careful not to loose the little bit of material that sits between the pillar and the dash (if its still there).

also be careful if the windscreen has been replaced at some point.... my one had and the bonded glue stuff had gone onto the pillars. When removing them, it could rip the vinyl so beware.

refitting if just a case of aligning the clips back up and giving it a good punch back into place.

hope this helps. its very easy to do, you just need to be brave enough to pull on it to remove it!!

Derek was right

I ran the wire for the mic just behind the lip of the door trim on the drivers side, across under the panel under the steering wheel, and behind the carpet into the tranny tunnel - piece of cake.

The mic is secured above my head to the plastic sunroof surround.

I also bought a new Clarion head unit - bluetooth, tuner, aux in, no cd - plays mp3s off an SD MM card. Was only £100 delivered, sounds better than the Sony it replaced but not as good as the amplified Alpine setup i had in my last car, but my hearing isn't as good as it once was either.

Doesn't look too bad in the car, though to be honest its a bit plasticy. But its talking bluetooth to my Blackberry, and gives my hands free in the car at minimum cost and hassle. Has six preset numbers, and apparently will stream audio from the Blackberry, or it would if there were any tunes on it.

Will do for me, and my 20something kids are well impressed, so it must be OK.
