Get your extractor ready and jiggle it untill it works (if you try long enough it will shift, try not quite fully inserting the key by 1/2mm) then immediately remove the barrel using the tool.

You can dismantle the barrel and remove the offending tumblers as a temporary measure which will allow you the refit the barrel and use the car, however the security will be of course reduced.

The steering lock cannot be disengaged without the barrel in place.

All Fixed Now

After speaking to Howard Williams ( Merc Independant in Birmingham ) Reccomendation was try a NEW key first I got a new Key Cut on Friday at DUPLICUT Kings Road Beggars Bush Sutton Coldfield for the Bargain price of a fiver inserted it and lo and behold rotation to position 1 Picked up my new Barrel with new Key ( key to match original no longer in manufacture so couldn't quote me a lead time for delivery ) so I went with the two key option as the car is off the road Cost £72.00 set of welding Rods £4.99 stripped the coating off the rods and made the Haynes Tool. Struggled on insertion because I thought it had to be in position 1 ie approx 45 degrees after 15mins of wd40 and nothing I looked at the new lock and discovered the position it should be in was approx 90 degrees of rotation ( to line the holes up ) - wireman refrred to the positionas C/W what does that stand for ????? anyway now the tool went straight in, and out came the Barrel noting that it had left the end of a prong snapped off at the bottom of the barrel hole so retreived it with long nose pliers - What does this bit do I wondered >>>>>>>>> Any Ideas??????????
Anyway I Then reinserted the lock as per Haynes instructions and Bisto everything restored to normal Nice cup of tea deserved. Now off to get a copy of the new ignition key at duplicut .
