hi all

While working on my 230e ( 1990 w124) over the weekend I came across what appears to be a loose vacuum pipe but I cannot find any place to attach it to.

The vacuum switch has an electrical connection on it and is located in front of the battery compartment while the tube passes through to the engine bay.

What does the config do and should that pipe be connected to anything as it appears to have some sort of mesh/filter inserted into it

thanks in advance

brendan

That looks like a breather of some sort. It allows a diapraghm type pot somewhere (possibly the cruise control) to "breathe" on it's open non-vacuum side. That's usually the only reason for an open pipe like that to have a strainer in the end.

Are you sure the two pipes in the 2 different pictures are connected.

I ask, as there is an open ended pipe in the engine bay for the vent to the charcoal filter hidden inside the front wing.

The charcoal filter deals with the petrol fumes evaporated from the petrol tank.
