Hello :) Just got my vert first mercedes, W124 230TE 1989.
And planed to lower the car by cutting the springs, i know it is a bad idea, but my wallet won’t allow any lowering springs. But since the car has SLS i wounderd if that should be disabled somehow for the cuted spring to have any effect or if the car would be lower and the SLS would still work how it should.

If it should be disabled, how do i go about doing so? Does it work to just empty it for hydraulic oil?

Thanks for answers :)

This doesn't sound a good idea for a number of reasons.

A shorter spring should, ideally, need to be stiffer to avoid the risk of hitting the bump stops. Also, lots of cars have a smaller diameter at the seat than the main part so it may not match the spring seat, and you may have problems getting it through an MOT.

Just my opinion.

Hello and welcome

Really really bad idea. Stick with it until you have some folding. You could probably lower it by changing the pads for less £££

Welcome,

No I wouldn’t cut the springs the correct fitting for lowering is the sportline spring units.

The SLS hydraulic oil is supplied from a tandem pump which also supplies the power steering so again leave well alone.

I’d wait until you can afford to do it properly

Please leave the SLS alone, if you insist on lowering you can do it with the SLS still in place

SLS can be adjusted to allow for a lower ride.

There's a link on the rear anti roll bar. Fit a different length link (shorter is lower). No good without changing springs. DO NOT cut the springs.
