Perhaps you can help with a query:

Very recently the single wiper on the car intermittently stops at various places on the screen. It first happended a couple of weeks ago when using the wash / wipe facility; the wiper stopped vertically. It stayed so for an hour or so regardless of what I did with the stalk, then decided to move when I moved with the arm stalk later in the day. :?

Also when using the intermitent wipe facility, the wiper arm sometimes travels to the home position, then moves about 2" above the home position before coming to rest.

Please can I ask the members (and guests) for any advice before going to a stealership?

Regards

During the time the wiper is switched on..but 'stopped' or 'stuck' can you hear the wiper motor still running?......if not, check for bad fuse connection.

Thanks panason1c

When the stalk is moved and the wiper blade doesn't there is no apparent sound coming from the front. :?

When I've rotated the fuse / remove & replaced the fuse this makes no difference. :?

It doesn't sound like an earth problem either since it travels passed its "home" position but it does sound like either a stalk / switch failure or dirty motor unit contact or similar.

Any other thoughts? / any ideas as to how one removes the switch & motor unit to find out? :?:

Regards

If you remove the trim (from under the bonnet) to expose the wiper motor ass', you will see that the power supply lead from the wiper motor is 'plugged' into a socket nearby....check that the plug is secure in the socket. If you still have a problem then possibly it could be the stalk switch but it really needs looking at to try and pinpoint the fault.

W124 wipers not going home

I've got a probelm with my wipers (W124 as well) the intermittent only works when the switch is taken to the normal speed wipe and then turned back to intermittent. Apparently this is a relay or switch fault but I've got used to it so no real issue. As for your problem there was a posting on a US site about fixing wiper motors that stick or stop. I thought this was what my problem was so last time I had the car serviced at Andy Gayle's (brilliant, can thorougly recommend him) I asked whether it was the wiper motor. Dave the foreman told me if it was a wiper motor problem it would judder across the screen. Apparently there's a phosphor bush in the motor that goes dry over time. If you lift the wiper cover (don't ask me how!!!) you just spray WD40 or similar onto the bush and hey presto. Alternative is well over £400 parts and labour if you need a new wiper assembly (ouch! (and that's without a blade!))
