W126 300SEL distibutor caps keep wearing out

Hi all

I've just had my second distributor cap wear out since March. Is this common?
If so, what are the usual causes? Bent cam, worn bearing, vibration in timing chain?
There are no other symptoms of an unhealthy engine (101 000 miles).

Hi

Have you tried changing the seal that sits underneath the cap. If water is getting in. This can cause a problem. I am assuming that you are using a Bosch cap.

Try machining the Intermediate shaft/gear.
