You must get the key to turn to 1, that is with the steering lock disengaged. if you take out the barrel when not in 1, the steering lock will fore and you will ner get it out

First order the new barrel for you car from MB,,then spray some PTFE into the lock to get it to turn-

I can give you the fitting instructions

It is possible with a Dremmel.
Use it to cut the steering column along the line of the retaining 'tit' & open the column up.You can then slide the steering lock out (you may have to cut the ign wiring & solder it back together after).
Did it happen suddenly? There is a chance that it is the steering lock at fault & not the barrel.

Thanks for that,
Have tried wd40,oil,ptfe etc,but still wont move although the first centimetre of the barrel seems quite slack as if it was snapped in two.
Will have a look at the steering column although the problem seems to be access as the fasia blocks everything.Would it be better to try and remove the steering column top end or remove the instrument panel and try and gain access that way,any ideas?
