W126 cluster

Hi,

Does anyone know if the instrument clusters on a W126 are interchangeable regarding the tacho and engine. In other words can I use any to work on my V8 engine?

The tacho bit is OK but the ratio of the rear axle needs to be the same otherwise speedo will be wrong.

Thank you for that, I have a 500SE and the secondhand cluster is off a 300 SE, do you know how I check rear axle ratio?

Hello Peter, the main difference is Auto/manuel if both cars are auto should be the same,I will try and check for you this evening,

What is wrong with your old cluster

Hi Malcolm,

Thank you again, I want to convert it to plasma white dials, the other cluster is very cheap so I thought it would be quicker to convert the spare one and then just fit it to the car.

Did you manage to fit white dials.

I am trying at the moment. Problem is that taking off the Needle I am finding a major difficulty?

Any advice ion how you found it? Any tips?

Just looked at CLOSED "Guages" thread with hotlink and see that what are sold for Euros 89 are a set which deliberately do not need to remove needles.

Paid £5.00 for my set on ebay but will have to get the cutting Compass out I fear to remove large part of centre and then stick on very carefully avoiding various needles? Pity ha hoped to do job with total face dials.
