Hello everyone,

I'm a forum newbie hoping that someone kind may be able to help.

My 1988 560SEL requires a couple of bits for an MOT pass. My front suspension spring has snapped (though feels fine while driving).

So, other than a main Merc dealer, is there a 'magic place' where forum members can go for such items klnowing they will get a fair deal?

Actually, the 560 has been lowered and while it looks well, it can be a harsh ride on pitted roads. Due to this mod, I have been advised that replacing the spring, as mentioned, could lead to set up problems. So, I'm thinking of putting the car back to it's factory suspension/shock set up.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Many thanks in advance,

Get standard springs only from a MB dealer.

The rest are generally of poor quality.

Thank you BlackC55. Very wise, I will do that. Afterall, you only get what you pay for, right?

you will need to give them the chassis number as the there maybe several springs depending on the options fitted to the car.

Like other spring manufactures do mercedes colour code the springs for rating etc. or do they stamp a part number on the coil? The reason for asking is there are so many cases where new springs get fitted and when the car is back on the ground it sits either too low or too high. I think half the time the person fitting the springs do not check to see if they are the same:(

Some more useful stuff, especially quoting the chassis number. I will contact my MB dealer then take my car in for an assessment. I'm not sure if I want to pay MB dealer hourly rates though.

I'm in Northern Ireland. Indies? 15,000+ posts! Thanks for your advice.
