I have been out today and stumbled across a hidden gem in the back of a warehouse, its the W129 SL300 87 on an "H", SOHC in red done 68000 with full MB, convertable with a hard roof too. Its DC red, unfaded and absolutely immaculate, a real stunner, leather is un cracked, electric seats all work, and its auto too ! It hasn't been driven properly for five years, although strangely gets MOT'd every year then put away again, although now he wants to shift it, how much is this worth in real terms? what is there to watch out for?

Make sure that the hood work, and no holes or bad wear. these cars do not rust, so thats OK, how do you price it, try him at £3k

I know this isnt really the tech thread, but he has just tried the car, and the roof has stopped working, he said it did have a faulty earthing switch in the door, and believes it could be this. how many bad things can go wrong with these roof systems, and how much to feed it!

Sure some 129s need to know where the windows are before the roof comes down.

In answer to you, how long is a piece of string, if the pump goes you can be in for £600 for a repair, could be roll sensor, or other sensor

With a good 129 you should not go wrong for the future, the 230's will never last as a classic as they are far too expensive when they go wrong, and most go wrong, not the roofs though.
Nice cars to own the 129

I'm hoping to nick it for around 1800 to 2200, I think I can force the issue!

You cant go wrong at that price, many roof problems come up from where a car has been left standing, and not necessarily expensive to fix, often just requiring re sets

I am going to see him this week hopefully, so I'm excited now! All I need now is to get the Head gasket, viscous fan clutch, and sub frame done on my W124 and I'll be happy, broke but happy!

Yeah you've had those jobs quoted on a 124 in the past too !! I've been threatening to do them myself, I just dont have time, and I'm not all that fussed about dropping a subframe in the garden

Hi if you get the SL for £3000.00 go for it , you will not lose any money on it, if any thing they will start going up in price in a couple of years, can not think of a better looking car, If you have problems Television knows a lot about the 129SL. If the roof motor is not working why not do it manualy till you get the money or know how to repair it, hope this helps.

Sounds good to me, The roof issue isnt all that to me, it gets done when it gets done, I should hopefully be getting somewhere with it this week
