W140 (1998) Rearview Mirror question

Would this mirror, be a simple 'plug and play' direct replacement for an existing NON auto-dipping mirror - or does it require a re-wiring exercise?

theses mirrors are not interchangable from W140 to W140, the alarm sensor is in the mirror.

Why do you need one anyway. from memeory they are £700 from mercedes!!

Hi,
Auto-dimming was just plug and play in both my W202's one pre-facelift (with the alarm lights) and my AMG facelift (without the alarm lights). As the S class was the flagship model i would be very surprised if it was anything else other than plug & play.
If you remove your existing mirror, and see if there are extra cables on the car side plug compared to your existing rear view mirror's plug.
Failling that e-mail the site Nic is a very helpful and knowledgable person and should alleviate any doubts.
The auto dimming rear view mirror for W202's retail from MB approx. £300-£340.
