Hi, I'm Bob Strawson, I live in Devon, work in Hants, commute weekly in the S600 Coupe that I bought a few weeks ago. It's 1996, 60k miles, lots of things are not right but I have already fitted new discs, pads, tyres, serviced engine, (wow 10 litrs of v. expensive oil!) etc. I have been reading all through your Q&A's on this model with much interest. The niggly things that are left to do I can take my time over but will ask for help as I come to them. My first is the driver's belt extender. I need to remove the trim to get to it. Any one know how! thanks in advance. But what a fabulous car!

its actually quite easy, remove the leather slightly L shaped panel from the back panel - it just pops off (163 below)

behind this is two screws - remove

remove the chrome trim

remove rear seat base (two tags under seat front, just push together and lift front)

remove seat back - 10mm screw at base then lift up / slide up

remove small screw at bottom of panel securing it to the floor

then lift whole panel upwards - the top half is held to the frame with quite tight clips.

job jobbed.

heres a pic of the thing exploded

Trim Removal

Thanks for your very quick and expert reply. Could I also ask you if you wouldn't mind letting me know your source for the diagram you enclosed as I will certainly need to obtain workshop manuals, etc. I found something on CD in the USA but it was for the S500. Do you know of anything on the V12? many thanks again in advance.

i have a copy of the US epc - so my CL420 is not listed, but your CL600 or S 600 coupe (same thing...) is.

the only real difference is that its LHD! ;)

I know of the 600 - and I'm scared by the idea of working on it.

Have you seen Jiims site? its for the 500, but much is similar.

Thanks for the info and links. I have now followed up and I'm about to order a gadget for reading the diagnostics. I'll probably end up in trouble, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

The other web sites were interesting too.
