Dear Group
I was just wondering what sort of fuel consumption figures those of you who have the V12 S600 W140 series are getting.

My friend bought one new, and paid £100,000 for it around 1988, 4000 miles later the slump had started and he got £35 to £40k in PX. That car did up to 24 mpg on a run and 18 ish around town.

Re Alex post above,,he has his own tanks

Not many 600 owners on here (can't think of one actually)- not many 600 owners in the UK really.
I think the old adage applies - if you have to ask you can't afford it!
Official MB figures are normally pretty accurate - what does the handbook say?

I had a 1997 S500 and would average 12 mpg around town. S600 around the same?

I would go with jberks pragmatic view - it will also offset the risk of owners exaggerating!

I live in a rural setting, so do A/B roads and Mways almost exclusively, so my cars always give the "constant speed driving/combined" figure overall.

If you live in an urban setting, because of short journeys/cold engine/stop start, you might struggle to make the "simulated urban driving/overall" figure.

If you drive it for economy, it will be very gratifying to achieve excellent numbers, but it won't be much fun. If I had a supercar, I would be tempted to enjoy it, although I agree the fuel consumption may cause you to wince!

It may not however. I had a couple of cars (Rover 75, Austin Westminster A105) which never did better than 20 mpg, but never did any worse either - so I just enjoyed them in whatever mood I was in that day.

It will be interesting to hear your findings (and see pics of your supercar!).

Dear Forum
Many thanks for your responses. I am not actually worried what it is as I shall only do a few thousand milkes a year if that. I was just curious as the handbook is completely silent on the matter.

I will post some photos when I work out how and when the snow has cleared.

Happy New Year by the way. Great forum.

Regards
Mike

My 12 cylinder Bentley does 6 - 10 around town (London traffic) and 20mpg at 70mph, so about 13 average. I can't see the MB being much different.

The figures are not that bad,, the SL600 weighed over 2 tons in 98 that did 26 on a run and 12 city,,mixed was 18.2 and thats the kind of figure that my friend got with his Watford

Dear Group
I have recently collected my W140 S600 Coupe. What an astonishing car. I got it from www.avantgardcars.co.uk, who were very helpful and professional. I would certainly buy another car from them.

On a 170 mile run to my parents, mostly motorway, I got 27mpg. Mind you the cruise control was set at 75 with a few minor adjustments here and there to overtake the morons stuck in the middle lane when the inside one was empty. But that is another story.

Haven't tried it around town yet.

I will post a few photos when the weather perks up and I work out how to do so.

Regards

S500 Snowy Roads MPG??

I have a W140 S500 Coup which i hammer to death. Amazingly i get 24+ MPG on the motorway and 18+ MPG round the country lanes - and i really am not making that up - i suppose its helped by the fact that i live out in the country so even a trip to the petrol station is 12mls each way!!

However this last week it has constantly been sub 0 Deg C with lots of snow and ice - the mileage has dropped to around 10 MPG!! If anyone knows the reason id be really interested!

Also actively looking for S600 Coup - must be mint!! If you have one get in touch..

For people that say the manual is accurate, it's not. Before I serviced my E280 W124, I was getting 34MPG average (From full to completely empty) and the book says 28... It's all about how you drive it.

I'd imagine that the power it produces will counteract the usual heavy car problems of single figure MPG... As for figures, my Dad used to get about 24-25 on a run.
