I received excellent advice on my heater/airlock woes on a previous thread which points to a faulty Aux water pump. This got me wondering what would you first notice if this pump failed?

The most obvious fault would be that the 'Rest' function wouldnt work, (fitted to mercs that have climate control) . (the rest function allows the cabin heater to still continue working for approx 20 minutes after the engine has been shut down)

Its b*****ed then. I will take it off and see if the brushes have failed. If that is the case I'll measure them and as Panason1c did source replacements. Lots of washing machine, vacuum cleaner and power tool easily obtainable but first measure them. Thanks again everyone. Peter.

Very easy to sand down carbon brushes with sandpaper flat and rubbing the brushes over it,,, you must take the 4 corners off if you do this or they will stick
