W163 ML270 - Engine cutting out at normal temp

Help please - Engine starts and runs fine until fully warmed up then cuts out abruptly - will restart when cooled and repeat
Crankshaft sensor replaced - any suggestions welcomed?

EPC light comes on - attempt to restart and the engine just cranks over - no other indication until cooled then normal restart and run upto temp and then instant cut out again.

Sounds like it dies for fuel starvation or insuffiecent rail presure due to air ingress... why only warm, is the question. Usually leak somewhere is worse at cold, but remember couple of cases opposite. Fault codes would tell is it fuel related or something electrical. Do you see air bubbles in clear return lines?

I have the same issue with a v220. Starts first time everytime. Replaced cam and crank sensors. Once warm engine dies and won’t start again until cool. Will start with easy start. What could cause this ?

I agree feels like no fuel.... I ruled out injector issues or even low pressure in the rail because cold start is perfect, fuel line leaks or a blocked filter would give this symptom with a hot or cold engine?.
I did read that the crankshaft sensors tend to fail when hot so I have replaced that (which is a bit of a bugger to get to :confused:).
Of course It made no difference from a cold engine it starts and drives normally without any hesitation until the temp get ups to 80 degrees then instant cut out at which point it will restart and run for about 15 seconds and then off until the temp drops, then start again until 80 degrees.

So I don't think it can rail pressure or leaky injector they tend to be cold start problems, it seems to be more electronic the ECU is not telling the injectors to inject.

try cracking an injector when it cuts out to see if its fuel related.

Pointless guessing chap, as already said it needs codes read on Star or it will rinse your wallet.
