hi,

after replacing the headlight main bulb (H7), the lights are no longer aligned as they were.

i am well familiar with bulb replacement on my A160 (did it more than a couple of times) and also with the tuning screws inside the engine compartment.

is there a manual on how to restore and readjust the main beams that anyone can share ?

thanks.

Are you sure that the bulbs are located correctly in the holders as these things are pre set and no adjustment should be nescasary

WHO? or it could be a left hand drive bulb.

That crossed my mind, but I think that it is done with the optics

All headlamp bulbs are setup to approximatly align at manufacture, however this is not accurate enough for correct alignment in the lamp assy which also has manufacturing tolerances, if you are lucky there is no adjustment required but I have only found this once in 40 years of playing with cars.

On the 124 models there are 3 adjustment screws behind the lamp assy, one for fog and two for headlamp, one is up and down the other side to side. this or similar is common to most head lamps.

To adjust:- (you need 4 one foot lengths of black tape and a jacket and a wall on a level area) (oh and a night or dark place)

Park the car front end towards and square to the wall

Turn on dipped beam and set the head lamp level control to its highest position

Mark the points where the beam centres land on the wall with one vertical and one horizontal tape

Pull back the car 10 meters (30 feet if your not very metric, or 2 car lengths if you have no ruler)

Open the bonet and cover one headlamp with the jacket while you adjust the other

Adjust the beams to be on centre and 100mm lower (4 inches or one hand width) than the tape marks.

I have never had an MOT fail using this method and its £20 cheaper than Quick fit
