W169 Door Open Indication

Does anyone know how the dashboard RH Door Open Indication works on a 2005 W169? I don't see any sensor or switch on the door or on the door frame. How does it know that the door is open and trigger the warning light?

How does it know that the door is open and trigger the warning light? I understand that if the door is open then the central locking on that door will not work?
