W201 190D 2.5 Clutch hydraulics Rant + Enquiry

W201 190D 2.5 Clutch Rant and Enquiry

Basically I have just tried to follow the "ha-ha-ha" Haynes Manual to replace the clutch master cylinder!!!

Whilst I was in there after having strippped out carpets and seat and usual suspects! It would appear that the Twat that wrote the bit about the clutch master cylinder in a 190 has NEVER tried to follow his own instructions!!!

If I looked at it all correctly then it would be easier to unbolt the 5 nuts of the aluminium pedal carrier (12) and disconnect the brake switch, the clutch lower pipe and the brake servo push rod and lift the complete ****** pedal box out refit the clutch master cylinder and refit it? Comments Anyone done this anyone agree or disagree strongly or otherwise?

Thanks Malcom

I was hoping for more replies but I think as it goes the master cylinder is a great design and this was original at 176,000 miles it was just because the return spring snapped that it needed changed

So in reality probably not many folk have had need to change one???

Done a few, bit fiddly but not that bad, dont need to remove seat or pedal box, undo the 2 fixing bolts to master, and clip that holds rod to pedal, undo steel pipe and take rubber hose off from master cyl and pull thru. Hour tops.

Perhaps Haynes should publish alternative versions of their manuals for large, overweight people. ;)
