Can anyone point in the direction of a cure, or where to look?

Central Locking is fine, Headlamp leveling is fine, which to me would illustrate sufficient vacuum?

If I take off the Brown vacuum hose form the servo pipe and suck I can watch the stop lever go down and the engine stop? Which would suggest that the Key mechanism is working correctly? C'est Vrai? Non?

Go back to the standard set up and turn off the key It no stop so can any of ya suggest a suitable place to look OR point me to posts of relevence?

Taa Much O ye Wise and Sensible Merc Driving folks

Sensible in reference to the Real Mercs     W124 and W201 of course Hmmm G wagons????
We'll leave the Jury out on that one cos they do DRINK fuel

Lots of ideas here, whick hose are you sucking?? the brown from the servo hose that dissapears into the bulk head or the return to the pump shut off valve? its more than likely to be a vac leak on another system which branches off the main vac pipe at the y piece so not givin the right vac. diconnect one of these at a time and block and test to see if the engine stops then, it'll narrow the fault down?

i hate typing.

The Brown hose from the brake servo to the bulkhead

So if some more want to jump in what is suggested is that there's a leak in one of the pipes or joints so air is being drawn in and there's insufficient vacuum to pull the diaphragm dowm to shut the injector pump fuel?

Now I'm getting the picture I was bit lost I work on Trucks vans cars forklifts diggers motorcycles right down to outboard motors (anything to raise a Dollar basically! Well almost anything!!!) But I haven't done of these vacuum systems before

It's always good to get some advice about something new? :D :D :D :D

I have just sorted mine out.

It is quite simple but a bit of a pig to access one bolt on the stop actuator.

Best tackle it with a vac gauge first to determine the point of leakage.
To do it:-
Remove air filter assy and get at the brown pipe to the forward most vac part on the pump govenor body.
Connect the vac gauge to the opened end of the brown pipe, run engine and turn off at the key, the vac should read a healthy 20 inch or more.
If it does not you have a leak (or poor vac from the pump) to or from the key switch, the valve is mounted on the steering lock part of the ignition switch and is not all that easy to get at without removing the switch assy.
If it does have a good vac the fault is probably the stop capsule leaking, to determine this fit a tee piece and bit of tube to add the vac gauge into the reconnected system. do the start stop test again and the vac should be a healthy 20 inch again,
(At this point mine read 4.5 inches and the engine was almost trying to stop, it did with the slightest touch of the stop lever). when the engine stops the vac should remain without falling off.
If the capsule is found to be wanting you will need some patience to remove its securing bolts, they are M6 bolts 25mm long and are game to the last due to locktite being used on assembly. The bolt on the outside (away from the engine will be best removed last and replaced first since you can easily get at it. The other setscrew is the bolt from hell it is underneath the barometric compensator, you can just turn it 1/6th at a time if your hand will fit the gap in the inlet manifold to get a short flat ring spanner onto the screw.
When both set screws are out press down the stop lever and lift out the capsule and clean up the mounting face, hole and screw holes.
Put a new O ring on the new capsule note the orientation as you put it in place whilst the stop lever is depressed (there is a dent in the can that fits a grove in the hole). The end of the capsule actuator has a bar which engages the stop mechanism, make sure that it engages the stop lever inside the govenor body.
Put the 2 setscrews back in.
Reconnect the vac tube.
Test the system with the vac gauge.
If all is well put the air filter back in place.

The stop lever stays down at its end of travel overnight on my car now that I have sorted the capsule, to me this indicates that there are no significant leaks.

PS take care when running the engine without inlet filter, it is a very good vacuum cleaner and might want to pick up forign bodies and eat them.

PPS a small boy with spanner as his first language might be better able to get at the hell bolt.

PPPS I ordered the part against the cars VIN from a Bosch agent who got the wrong part!
The order was ammended to the part number found on the back of the old capsule which was sucessfull. (£24)
