Does anyone have any comments or suggestions why this car which starts fine cold, is hesitant and misfires on starting when hot?.
Just changed the plugs for approved Champion type, added (Forte)injector cleaner into the Tank. The car has only completed 80K miles from new, (J reg 1992), and is now only doing about 4K per year.
Once running it is fine, just behaves as if it is flooding when hot.
I lookforward to constructive advice from you guru's out there.
Thanks in advance.

do a search on this website-i am sure this one has been covered before

click the search tab at the top of this page and enter the keywords of your problem-your answer should be there.

if it is not ,then try the american merc website-www.mercedesshop.com.

and do a search there-

good luck

It is possible that the fuel injectors are leaking as and when the engine is stopped. I have just encountered this problem with my W140 S320. Although it is a 6 cylinder, not a 4, the root cause is likely to be the same.

When you stop the car, there is residual pressure in the fuel system. If the injectors and/or a fuel rail are leaking in any way, fuel continues to leak into the manifold thus when you come back to the car (say 1-2 hours later), the engine is essentially flooded and hard to start. If you leave the car for 1 week without starting it, it will start first time as the residual fuel pressure will be zero and the fuel will have gone away in the manifold. The tell-tale is difficult warm starting and a very smelly exhaust when it finally does start.

I'm only posing this as a suggestion not as the definative answer - a merc specialist ought to be able to investigate this sort of problem (& are possibly better to deal with than a stealership who only reallly want to know if the problem can be found on the computer).
