Can anyone help.

Broken the switch (It has always been very stiff to turn). Cast alloy stem has sheered of in side the plastic switch. Can be operated by pulling out and turning the inner spring loaded stem but will obviously have to be replaced soon. Unfortunately when trying initially to get the stem to turn, pulled out the contact for the amber fog light indicator light in centre of switch (Is this crucial as it works without the amber light?).

Would appreciate any tips or advice on fitting and sourcing a replacement or if anyone knows of a spare for sale, or is it looking like a trip to the dealers?

Have trawled ebay and many other sites without success (except for a U.S. supplier).

Many thanks in advance.

Al.

Hi Al,, this switch breaking is not a common fault, I think that it is the same switch on any 124 so should be easy to find one.

The lamp in the switch is a warning lamp only so that you know that it is on.

I should have the fitting details somewhere that I can let you have

Thanks for your prompt reply Malcolm.

Fitting details would be a great help, and if you or anyone could point me towards a replacement, new or used that would be better still.

Best regards, Al.

Hi Malcolm,

I had no luck with the Euromerc guy, didn't get back to me after initially replying that he had used ones.

Pleasantly surprised to find the complete switch will cost around £55-60 from my local Merc dealer.

If you get chance, I would be very grateful if you could provide fitting details (I can't see them being included with the switch).

Kind regards, Al.

If you've got an MOT coming up, you'll need the amber warning light for the rear fog lights to be working.

Stu cdx thanks, I have the switch ordered complete with new knob. MOT not until Dec.

Meanie, thanks for the offer, but I will have a new one by Tuesday from Merc. I thought 50 odd quid was quite reasonable for an original Merc part as it looks quite a lump and was expecting nearer £100.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Right ho ;)

Just saying, as my Maestro's switch didn't light up properly, causing it to fail it's MOT. And as it was a really late Maestro, the switch was different to all the others causing me monumental aggro when I tried to fit a new bulb myself.

Just a quick note to say thanks for advice/tips re. the main light switch, especially Television. Got the switch delivered from Mercedes in 2 working days, 53 quid incl a new knob.
Fitted this morning 30mins, sorted.

Never fails to impress me how you can still get OEM parts for a 17 year old car.

Regards, Al.
