Hi Guys

i have noticed a wet patch in the boot of my 96 W202?

I have traced the leak and it seems to be coming in from the top left hand corner, there are numeroue holes in the metal lining and it drips in from there just below where the seal is.

i dont think its the seal as i removed the seal and poured wter around the area and no where else dpripped other than this one spot?

any one had this happen or know of what may be the problem?

Thanks

Raj

Hi Malcolm,

yes the passenger side under the parcel shelf water is dripping into the boot?

I poured a glass of water over glass in that area and it seems to get in only at that point.

Also thought that it might have been the rubber boot seal and rubbed some vasaline on it but its not the boot seal....

ive asked a winscreen guy to come and have a look at it to determine whats causing it.

Water leak

Hi. I've had this too on my 97 estate. Check around the rubber housing where the electrics come in for presumably the wipers etc. I had the same problem, no towbar either although I had removed the boot trim to check the vacuum pipes for the tailgate and had obviously disturbed the rubber seal. Mine seems ok now!

The only corrosion fault listed is at the bottom of the rear window, and it fits the bill for where the water is coming in

Hi,
From the position you are describing, could,nt it not possibly be a sunroof drain?

Right guy come out to see the screen, he says taht he will need to re seal the wind screen to make sure taht its done properly????

when he was looking at the area he pulled the trim away and i spotted a small hole where i presume the clip attached to the body work...

now im thinking that this may be the culprit in this case causing the water to get into the boot?

Im going to seal the hole and try to see if this stops it before i get them to remove and reseal the whole screen...

he wanted £50 which is not that much but if i go via insurance its £60 done via autoglass!!!!!

Right,

as i thought there was a hole in the body work where the clip had rotted and snapped off.... thus causing the water to leak into the boot.....

i went home on my lunch and covered it with some tape and poured water over the area and no water.....

so i think the window guy was trying to pull a fast one.....

question now is what should i use to seal this hole the trim is also loose but its not that noticable nor does it really have any purpose so i was thinking of using some sillicon in the and around the hole??

Hi Malcolm,

there is basically a hole where the clip that holds the trim to the rubber and the body work which has corroded.

this would normally clip into the body work and stop the water but as this has rotted there is a small 0.5 cm hole left where the water is seepining into the boot

i will try and get a pic up before i seal it later this week

OL I saw the post elswhere to see.

There are 2 things, one is Dum Dum used in car restoration, (Wollies or complete automobilist) but not be easy to find elswhere, the other is Loctite Super flex black silicon (halfords) either will do the job and both black.

the Dum Dum is a plasticine type where you just push it into the hole and it never dries
