W202 C200 bizzare electric window glitch after battery swap

I've just changed the incredibly durable 10 year old MB branded Varta battery on my car earlier today, swapped it for a Yuasa one of similar design and capacity. I did everything right....disconnected the negative terminal first, didn't have the key in the ignition or anything turned on. I was a bit surprised and a little shocked (okay, not literally) when I got a spark as I reconnected the earth, but everything seemed okay afterwards with the exception of having to reset my clock and install all of the radio stations back into my radio.

However, after a little trip to the shops I tried to put my drivers window up the bit I'd dropped it by pushing the console switch all the way, and it wouldn't go. The window moves fine by pressing to the half-detent, either up or down, until you release the button, and goes down if you press the button all the way - but it won't 'lock-on'. But to raise the window, if you press fully to the locking stage, it won't go. It only goes up if you half press and hold.

But here's the weird bit. I tried all the other windows. Front passenger door - the same. Rear nearside door - the same. Rear offside door - OKAY! Then....The rear nearside door started working normally too. Finally, my front passenger door came back to normal, but the drivers door window persists with its 'half a push to raise me' syndrome. Whether changing the battery has caused this or whether it is just a happy coincidence (sic) I do not know. Maybe it will have all healed up by itself in the morning but I'm at a loss to understand what it happening here. Ruddy software! :(

Normally you have to lower windows ,hold button down for 10sec. Raise windows ,hold button down for 10sec.Same for sunroof if fitted. Why they should self heal I have no idea.

Thanks Jay. I've just seen a similar posting which I couldn't find before I wrote mine. I'll give it a try in a bit. I don't think I held my other window switches accidently for as long as ten seconds, but who knows, maybe the car was being nice to me. As long as it isn't terminal and involves a trip to the MB dealer with his diagnostic computer and £90ph rates I'm happy! :D...Mick

Thank you Jay. The 'press and hold for ten seconds' trick, half detent, window dropped, then raised, worked a treat for the drivers door window. The other three remain fully operational. The only thing I can think of that had something to do with the others coming back 'by themselves' is that I stood outside of the car and dropped all of the windows by holding the lock button on the key, and then raised them again with the unlock button, to see if that still worked after the problem arose...but I don't think I held the key button in for ten seconds at each end. Never mind, problem solved. As the person on the other post said though, I do not think Haynes put this information in their manual, which could be a problem for a lot of people! Rgrds, Mick

Yes it is an odd thing when only some parts of the car loose their memory, my 129 used to do the same, only the drives door

I too have a similar problem. I had a new battery 7 months ago while in France and then recently it went flat due to short trips in cold weather. Anyway after a recharge the driver's window later went down (opened) while the car was locked and parked overnight. Again while I was driving the window repeatedly went down. Sometimes while I was pressing the button to put it up, it would fight against the upward action. Further bizarrely I went to look at another Mercedes yesterday, the battery of which had been totally flat and lo, it had the same problem affecting windows and electric mirrors. I hope the 10 second hold down technique will fix both these cases. I will go now and try. Thanks
