Hi,

I have a W plate C200 Esprit and my remote wont open/lock the doors or start the car! I have replaced the batteys in the remote but the red led still looks quite dull when i press the button. The key just doesn't turn in the ignition at all? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Graeme.

First thing to check if you have'nt already done so is whether the main 12V car battery is flat or open cicuit in any way ie check for good connections at both terminals and check battery voltage, if you have a voltmeter you should see around 12.5 V.

Boot

Hi,
I cant get into the boot!! The lock is seazed as its never been used and the fuse for the boot release has blown and guess where the fuse is located..... the boot.

Just done the camera test and the fob seems to be working ok.

Thanks,
Graeme

Deffo the battery in the boot. Lift up the cover where the ecu is housed under the bonnet and under a flip top cover you will see some terminals. Connect these correctly to jump leads/battery this should give you the boost that you need to open the boot.

Cant get into the boot

1. I have checked the voltage at the starter motor live and its 12.5v so the main battery is ok.
2. I have done the camera test and the remote is ok.

What next??

I suppose it could be the actual key thats not working even although the camera test works?

Thanks,
Graeme.

Does your key look like the one in this photo if it is the same then it uses the DAS, this is Drive Authority System and usually as soon as you put the key into the dash you hear the steering lock disengage before you can turn the key. Do you hear that noise? if not then the car is not recognising the key, now whether that's the fault of the car or the key I'm afraid I can't tell you, to buy another coded key would cost you around £150 and it still may not work if the fault is in the DAS unit in the car. I hope perhaps "Television" Malcolm will jump in here with some more info

Yes the key is like the one on the left. It does'nt make the sucking noise when i put it in the ignition now. Looks like i first need to try a new key! Cheers i'll keep you posted.

Im watching with interest as I have a customer in Fuengirola with the same problem. DC rekon its an ecu/immobiliser fault that WILL take thousands to put right. Im not convinced at the mo but then Ive not personally checked the car.

If its just the ignition unit that does not make the 'sucking noise' when you put the keyfob in, then it is the electronic ignition barrel gone, a Mercedes part only from the dealers.
If no matt3er what batteries you put into the keyfob it does not work, then the key is at fault.
