I'm looking into getting one, any owners have any advice/ tips/ common problems to look out for?
Idealy looking for the slightly later model (facelift bumpers/ infrared key) with auto box. Which trim pack is available with this model ie classic/elegance/etc etc?
Any views welcome, good or bad, it may help me out!
thanks!

Hi Phil,
I had a 202, C250 up till late last year. It was Elegance trim, the one with the chrome flashes on the tops of the door handles, and 4 electric windows. The Classic was the basic one, I thought it looked a bit bare outside. Avantgarde usually had metalic or carbon effect centre console trim, I preferred the wood of the elegance. Mine had cloth seats, leather would have been nice but was rare. To sum up, Classic, too basic. Avangarde, too flashy. Elegance, Just right, leather would be perfect !. Ive said before on this forum that I think the 250 diesel is one super engine, mine was a manual non turbo so not fast. I dont think Id go for a manual again, it doesnt suit the character of the C class.

I would prefer an auto one. As my username suggests, at the moment I have a W202 C36 AMG, and as much as I love it, cant justify the poor fuel consumption on local runs, hence looking for a diesel, mine also has the carbon effect centre console which I'm not over stuck on. Has anyone had issuses with wiring / engine management on the 250 turbodiesel?

Hi Phil its me again,

202 with 605 engne
No history of engine management problems but the O rings on the fuel lines around the filter are prone to leaking, letting in air and preventing starting. Easy cured, replace all the lines. Parts only about £60 from dealer. You,d think that Mercedes would learn. My new (2002) C270cdi has exactly the same fuel lines that had to be replaced for the same reason !.

My C250TD auto Elegance was at 217000 miles when I sold it, best car I've ever had. The only major work it required was replacing the engine cooling fan after 200,000 miles and sorting the aftermarket air con.

i've had my c250td est almost a year & the only thing i've had is a few weeks ago the temp gauge suddenly went up to the red ... turned out to be the plastic impeller on the water pump had cracked & fallen off... luckily i was only on local roads... on the motorway would probably have ruined the engine. i've since heard its a common problem with alot of german cars. i love driving my car... its so good on motorways... mines manual & i sometimes think i should've got auto but some cars in auto can be a bit boring to drive. shaun

W251, S211 320 cdi Avantgarde (2005), W202 250 td (now sold), W245 with lots of extras
Hi,
I have had my 250td (Esprit)for >7 years now.
It is an R reg with 177K on the clock. I thought that all Esprit models had split folding rear seats which I found to be incorrect!
the following things have been replaced in the time I have owned the vehicle:
fuel shut off valve, and lines (£120)
motor brushes from the heater/fan (£10)
brake pads (can't remember)
tyres (can't remember)
radiator (due to leak in ac section) > £200
numerours bulbs
glow plugs (£10). one jammed in and I had to get someone to drill it out for me.This is a known issue with the diesels.

One of the bulbs in the instrument panel has gone, but I have not had time to replace this.

I have noticed that rust is starting to appear near the boot key hole.

Generally this has been a good car,but I know that the cdi's are much more efficient.

Hope this helps
