Hi - I am helping my father-in-law improve his P&J 1995 W202 C36. After not being used for a couple of years, a new battery is giving us an always on ABS light preventing an MOT pass.
We have tried the 'steering left/right/left/etc' to reset the light to no avail. Our friendly independent's STAR has pointed us to a fault code on the ABS pump. He and we have now found that:
- we have power to the blue ABS relay
- there is no power to the ABS pump (the red lead feeding the pump at the front right of the engine bay)
- we have replaced the blue ABS relay with a new MB relay
- we have also tested the red ABS pump power supply against a couple of different grounding points ruling out a bad earth
The red lead to the ABS pump is in poor condition. Clearly there is a bad connection between the relay output and the pump's input (I'm testing the power within the lead's connector).
It appears that the red lead to the ABS pump comes from a larger dark green multiple on the front edge of the pump.
Can anyone guide me further in terms of diagnosis/things to test/replace?
Should we be looking at a new pump?
Should we be looking at the loom running from the relay to the pump's multi connector?
Are there any guides on pump removal/replacement?
All help much appreciated.
TIA
BD.
