Hi Folks,

I have a W202 C200 sport which has just passed another MOT first time, however much to my shock my mechanic has informed that i will need to change the damper on the front offside at some time.

I was contemplating having ago at this myself if it is not to difficult.

Can anyone pass on any experience in such matters such as the difficulty level and are there any special tools required.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Easy job but do ensure you replace the shock absorbers as a pair.

Easy, but beware of the spring load, you must use an appropriate suspension spring compressor, the spring is under much more load than the wheel and needs to be restrained safely or it will jump out of its seat and hit whoever is nearest......

Hi,
Yes as Television, I did,nt think there was any need to touch the road spring as the spring is held securely in place by the upper and lower ball joints being fixed to the stub axle.
Is this not the case then?

My appologies:Oops: apparently its not the suspension damper as i thought, but the steering damper (didnt know such things existed).

So hopefully not upsetting too many people about sending them down the wrong path has anyone got any advice about this.

I did this very job on my W202 just last weekend and I'm a proper numpty as this link will reveal.

I bought a genuine damper from a Stealership for about 30 pounds. I can easily talk you through the process if you still need some guidance?

I did it with a trolley jack and axle stands. Do you have these?
