My Fuel Gauge has started to play games.
When i start the car it doesn't register and the light comes on.
After playing around with the cabling in the boot i can get it to return to normal.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do to solve this problem?

You could clean the connectors to the float first,if the float is at fault, many solve it by using some injector cleaner or a few tank fulls of 98 fuel

When dealing with a possible faulty cable, you need to move them as gently as possible to avoid any movement in the tank float gauge, also tapping the float on top would also prove the point.

You cant complain at that, its very good 190,000 miles

Thanks Malcolm,

This started when i went to change a blown tail lamp. after i ahd removed the lamp unit and refitted it the fuel gauge was at 0 with the light on. after driving for a while, the light went out but remained at 0. Once i got home i left the car running and moved the air hoses and cabling in the boot and the gauge came back to full!.

I have been and checked a while ago without the car moving and it is back at 0??

Very frustrating.

This would appear to be a wiring fault then, rather than a faulty float, as before I would double check on where you first changed the bulb and look for any faulty connections.

Not easy sometimes with these faults, with someone watching the gauge and move each wire as carefully as possible would be my approach

There is nothing on the air lines connected to the tank other than the locking flap
