Good evening, wonder if any one can help please.

Had to go into hospital (November) for surgery and prior to going in I disconnected the car battery. Today, 3 months on, I reconnected the battery and when I turned the key to position 3 (3 or 4 times) I heard a series of loud clicking noises. Disconnected and recharged battery but same clicking noises when trying to start car again.

Bought a new battery and engine starts first time - but have noticed the following problems:

Temperature guage, ignition off, needle is in the normal position pointing to 40c.
Fuel guage, ignition off, needle is in the normal position empty.

When I turn the ignition to position 2 I notice that:

Temperature needle moves clockwise and stops at clockface position 2 o'clock.
Fuel needle moves anti-clockwise and stops at clockface position 11 o'clock.

The external digital temperature display is blank and slightly illuminated.
The low washer water warning lamp is continuously illuminated (container full).
The digital mileage has changed from 70,000 km's to 3000 km's.

Everything was OK prior to going into hospital. Have done a visual inspection of the engine compartment and checked fuses etc and all looks OK.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Wow, people pay alot of money to get that done !

I can only suggest that either the information management system needs resetting due to battery going flat or there is some condensation build up in the electronics somewhere causing a bad earth or short.

Did you try to jump start the car at any stage ?

Hi talbir and thanks for the quick response.

No, car has been in my garage all the time. Had a closer look in the engine compartment and there is evidence of mouse activity (mouse droppings / food etc). I don't think the mice have taken up residence - just using it to store food, but checked the wiring and as far as I can see it looks OK.

Will see if my local garage has a laptop with MB diagnostic s/w and see if they can reset it for me.

Thanks for the reply.
