Hi

I have a 85 C200 sport and an odd problem, went I turn the vent selector dial (not air con or climate) the air direction is not changed, I have checked the selectors are inserted and still nothing. Is this going to be a mega expensive fix ? Any help or advice greatly appreciated !

Small correction its of course a 95 not 85 ! As for your question television, nope turning the knob has no effect the air is not directed anywhere, with the fan on full none of the vents get a blast out of them, I checked all the fuses in case its electric but they seem ok and I am dreading the cost if the whole dash has to be removed ! Again, any advice on the vent controls is welcome

Has the heater control unit been disturbed for any reason,if so the link rods may not have been fitted in correctly when it was reinstalled , at the back of the direction and fan control knobs there are sockets into which the control rods have to be fitted as the control unit is being installed.
It is fiddly but if not done correctly the dials will have no effect on the direction of air flow and/or temperature.

The rods have been disturbed (I lifted the panel to see how hard it would be to change the bulb behind the vent dial) so thats one to check,

Television
Is it possible to check if the cables are connected by removing a panel ?

Both
Thanks for the advice !

I believe that it is all rod operated, and I should not have said cables. It can only be the rod to the direction flap off or in the wrong place

We all all kind here :cool: what I am thinking now is that if you connected the rod when the flap was in the wrong position then that could be the trouble

Just as an after thought the reason for the weak air flow is more than likely your pollen filter, as it does seem to get forgotten about if the car has been serviced outside of MB dealer. Very easy and quick fix £20 or less for the filter and about 15 minutes of your time.
How to do it in this link,
http://202tech.mkosonen.com/howto/blower.html
Hope this has been of some help.

If it's just the illumination for the knob that's failed the bulb is in the centre of the knob spindle. To access it pull the selector knob off using a pair of padded pliers and if you have a problem removing the bulb use a drinking straw or similar with a spot of superglue.
