w202- recommended HU if looking to upgrade

Hi all,

just thought id post for others that may be interested in getting new head unit.
My w202 came with an aftermarket unit but was too silver and lots of flashing lights for my liking, also the sound was decent but on full was not too loud so i thought id upgrade unit and door speakers
Bought set of panasonics for doors and this head unit (iegeek k301) as looked more simple/refined and suiting classic interior

was waiting on adaptors to fit speakers and just put in new unit (fits perfect with cage) ..and OMG instant better sound with stock speakers and the top volume is now massive and rocks the car....must be the built in amp? and looks great

doubt i will use the speakers now either return or keep in case failure

Pretty much all UK W202s came with aftermarket radios as at the time a radio was on the option list and dealer fitted.
I know this as I ordered mine ex factory and had to take it to the Mercedes Dealer after I collected from the factory to have it fitted.

Standard offerings varied from dealer to dealer but usually came from Sony and Blaupunkt.

Alternative more modern designs incorporating DAB, Bluetooth and USB that are in keeping with the styling if the era are available from Continental and Kenwood.

It sounds like you are one of the lucky ones if your standard speakers are ok or more likely a prevous owner has already swapped them at some point. I couldnt believe how awful the standard speakers were in the W202 C200 I had a few years ago. I even got them out to check if the paper cones had become detatched but no, they were quite intact and just really, really bad speakers. I got a W210 after that, only a year newer but that had surprisingly acceptable speakers.
