My first post, and apologies if this is covered somewhere already - I did look but there are 500+ threads in this category.

Just bought a '97 C200 Elegance auto estate (upgrade from my beloved 1992 190E) and all the electrics are working - sunroof, windows, mirrors, lamps, etc - except the three wiper settings. The wash/wipe works fine, so I know the motor is good but just nothing on intermittent/steady and fast wipe settings on stalk. Is it more likely to be stalk or relay you think? All other stalk functions are fine, as are rear wiper functions on console switch.

Any help greatly appreciated, including part number for relay if that's what it needs.

Cheers

This is so hard and it could be either, you could lift out the N10 multifunction relay and check for poor connections on the PCB,,see what others say and welcome to the forum

Some progress. I looked at the relay (202 542 04 32) and it didn't seem to be seated firmly. Took it out, cleaned the contacts over and put it back in firmly. I then had intermittent wipe, which I hadn't had before. The relay itself looks like a replacement (has made in Philippines on it?) so I'm going to take a gamble and replace it. This result seems to move suspicion away from the stalk, which is good because I'd have to rely on professional to deal with taking the steering wheel off!

Thanks for the advice. I'll report back when I have the relay replaced. Great forum.

BTW - Dec, I see you're location Ireland. I'm in the North - recommend any good parts places on this island?

I came across this… http://www.driftireland.com/showthread.php?t=92 … last week when I was looking for something else. The one bellow, Molloy, is Mercedes only, there is a few others on the list too but have never used them.
Mercedes Benz Car & Van Parts 185 Monaghan Road, Armagh, BT60-4EZ 048-37568083
Mercedes Spec & Dismantl 55b Nutts Corner Road, Crumlin, Belfast. 048 – 90825600

Put your VIN number… outside bottom of windscreen… in here… http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cats/m.mycat?cat=mb&client=dr2000 … you should be able to find the part number in > Electrical Equipment + Instruments >Fuse box relays.

Edit; also, in there, where the N10 relay is located , is the wiper plug, 5pins in a row, check it is ok and seated properly.

Resolved - sadly not the relay, but that was cheap enough. It was the combination switch (stalk) replaced quickly by the guys at NITEC (M-B specialists here in Northern Ireland http://tinyurl.com/yjrbpz2 )

Thanks for the guidance!

Thanks for the useful feedback Peter, hold on to your spare relay as you might have a use for it in about 2 or 3 years time, some of these relays seem to fail when the are about 15 years old.

If you have the all plastic key, then EIS, and the N10 is not an N10 as such, its all part of the front SAM called N10/1
