The wiper switch appears to be faulty in that the intermittant wipe doesn't work at all neither does the park function. It feels to me like a faulty switch particularly as the wiper will stop as I press the switch down to indicate. However reading through various threads I see there is a common dry joint problem on the N10 relay (Is this fitted to the W202) if so could someone help me to locate the relayand / or suggest a source of supply for the switch, or can the switches be taken apart and repaired

This is on a 97 C250 vin wdb202128

You have the relay then. Give a tap and see if it does anything to your problem. The relay is in the drivers side fuse box under the bonnet.

Its quite big for a relay.

From your description it sounds like the switch is faulty.

Thanks,

I'll give the relay a good thump and see if anything happens if nothing then will dismantle the switch. I assume this is just an easily replacable part?

Thank you Malcolm & Black. I think it's rude not to post back a result but I won't be able to have a go until next weekend so will post the result after then.

Thanks again :D:D

Getting the right switch

The current update on this.

Gave the relay a good thump and made no difference to the wipers so decided it would be the combination switch.

Went to GSF and they said there was two possible switches for a 97 w202. they had one in stock so I took that to try it.

Located the connector under the drivers side dash. I noticed the new connector had one more occupied pin than the original. I plugged it in and hey presto the wipers now worked on Intermittant and parked OK but the indicators didn't work, plugged the original back in and indicators now working but no intermittant wipers.
OK I thought maybe it should be the second possible switch so GSF ordered that for me but it was definitely not correct as it had completly different connector.

So took the steering wheel off (B****rd of a job) and got the old switch out. the MB number on the old switch is 202 540 20 44

the first one supplied by GSF is 202 540 2144 they have double checked with their stock numbers and reckon the 2044 is superceded by the 2144 so now we are thinking that maybe the one they supplied me was just a faulty one causing hte indicators not to work so they are now ordering another one for me to try.

Has anyone else had this problem before?
