I had the dreaded fast flashing indicator problem that was solved temporarily by disconnecting the alarm siren behind the passenger wheel well plastics.

From what I believe this problem is quite common so I looked up the EPC and found the part numbers.

Original No:- A2038203826
Replaced by:- A1718202526

The difference between the two is the new part number is held in place by a nut with the original a bolt, don't ask what the part number is for the nut as I could find it but it’s a M8 anyway!

This is where is got strange ordered the A171 part and was told it is now A2198203226, anyway it arrived and fitted it, all works ok.

However, I seem to have gained the chirp on lock / unlock, I was sure this was a coding option only so I have no idea how this has appeared.

Hi,

I have the same exact problem and have searched for the well hidden alarm siren but cant find it :)

I have been looking behind both front wheels covers in front of the wheel and behind but cant find it. On the left steering side i only find the windshield fluid container and on the right passenger side I only see the back of the fog lights etc.

Is it placed in front of the wheel or behind the wheel near the door?
What does the siren look like? is it a square plastic box or like a tube?

Regards Anders

The wheel arch liner consists of three sections/covers one in the front towards the bumper, one in the top and one in the back towards the door.

Is it under the one in the front towards the bumper?

OK thank you,

I have unmounted all parts on the right passenger side - under the rear there is nothing at all.

The onlye one I havent looked under is the rear cover of the left front wheel (drivers side)... Guess Ill have a look there then.?

It always causes confusion on LHD and RHD cars most of the diagrams are for LHD on some cars the things are the same, on others they are reversed

i am surprised the siren is not behind the plastic cover to the rear of the wheel, at the lowest point...

For the 350 slk 2005 RHD i hunted just like all the forums told me behind the wheel arch, i checked both sides, no where to be seen.
so i had to diconnect the battery as i needed to put it on a trickle charge overnight, by pure mistake i found the alarm siren bolted to the inner wing, you can see the alarm casing even with the battery in situ, but you will need to undo the two bolts and pull apart the electrical connector, (very easy). some people say take them apart and replace the batteries but this thing was not budging, (the siren looked in very good condition, no signs of rust), just get a replacement. Dont waste your time taking inner wheel arches off, check by your battery first, much easier. when i take some images i will post them.

Just took some pics of the alarm siren for the 350 slk R171, i hope that you find these of help, better than struggling.
Once you have diconected the siren electrics you will notice that your ordinary car battery will stop discharging, thats a releif.
Also i notice months ago that my siren was not giving the audible screech when i locked the car by remote. Also the 4 way flashers have stopped playing up and also alarm has stopped going off even when i drive up the road. personally i cant stand car alarms, they dont really do anything. If people are goiung to steal they will do it anyway.

Image 1 is the car battery box

image 2 is the location of the two nuts that you need to undo. Red arrows locate. (as you can see i have already removed mine and refitted the battery)
image 3 is the alarm siren in its holder, just undo middle star headed screw to remove from bracket.

image 4 is the alarm siren removed from the bracket, dont throw away the bracket the replacement is only the middle bit.
