W203 C-Class

Hello, im a new member looking to gather information on W203 C-Class that im looking to buy.

My budget will only allow me to get 2000/2001 models. Ive always had BMW/VW and im totally new to Mercedes.

When buying these cars, what things are there to look out for? Im looking at a C180/C200. Whats the difference between classic, elegance and avantgarde?

Is there a buying guide for them and what extras are worth looking out for?

Diesel is the more prefered choice for me as the fuel consumption is good.

If you buy privately have someone look over it for you. Remember the early 203's were not that good compared to the facelifted 203's.

Yes i know the facelifted ones are better but i cant afford them.
