Were there specific reasons to stay away from the 320CDI?
They do have a couple of inherant 'potential' issues, but tbh repairs to one as you go along aren't likely to equal the work your considering for the C200. If you're considering 55's and such you aren't concerned about the consumption.

Where to start....
Complex and problematic emissions controls, highly polluting without them, narrow power band, uninspiring to drive, gruff, likely to be banned from every city centre before too long, questionable future.

Some diesel engines are quite revvy and very smooth. Others are not just like some petrol engines sound like a bag of spanners and some are as smooth as silk.
