Hi again to you all. I am looking for two longer E12 (10mm thread) Torx bolts - the type that secures the rear of the driver seat rails to the floor

Ideally they could do with being 70mm bolt body length.

I have tried my local MB Dealership but they cannot identify the bolt I am looking for - they can only provide what is fitted at various locations by MB Part numbers.

Can anyone help me in finding such a pair of bolts please.

Do they really have to be Torx? Maybe you could use 8.8 cap heads from a local engineering stockist

Hi E'sD. I assume that you are referring to Allen Cap bolts !

Unfortunately even the regular Hex head bolts will not do the job either - because a regular socket will not fit into the rails because the head alone of the bolt leaves no room for the socket.

but a cap head bolt is not dissimilar to the female Torx that you were looking for

Hi again E'sD. Yes I am aware the Allen Cap bolt has similarities to the Torx head bolt but they are not a Torx head bolt which is what I am really looking for and with a shank length of 50mm to 60mm.

Hi bigasotonuk. Thanks but the price that is quoted is just plain old rip-of and with no guarantee that the thread pit is correct.
What pitch are you looking for ?

10mm is available in three pitches - 1.5mm standard / 1.25mm fine / 1.00mm fine which is sometimes used on braking systems.

If you need to find the pitch without TPI a gauge then get a standard M8 bolt and see if it fits perfectly into the thread of your sample bolt , if it does then you need a 1.25mm pitch , if not it is one of the other two pitches which should be obvious as to what one you need.

Some cylinder head bolts are torx headed and should be trimable to your dimensions.

Hi Kenny. Thank you for the tip - will a 10mm bolt and an 8mmboolt have the same thread pitch ??

I acquired two bolts from a chap in Wigan and they have offered a temporary solution but I would prefer two others at 50mm or 60mm - he didn't have other options.

Depending if the M10 is a fine or course thread , normally in automotive usage the M10 will be a version of a fine thread either 1.25mm (same as a standard M8 ) or 1mm in certain applications.

If we knew exactly what you trying to do with what then we would be in a better position to advise on your options.

I thought you wanted 70mm long
Hi again E'sD. That was my first guesstimate. Having removed one of the bolts I would be better off with a slightly shorter length.

Hi again Kenny I am looking at raising the rear of the driver seat rails with spacers that would give me an increased height of 30/33mm hence the longer bolts.
The standard M10 thread is quite a course thread and is a slightly tight fit in the captive fixing.

Hi Woodleigh. Thank you for the link but a products search does not bring up Torx bolts for ratchet/socket application.

I will ring them tomorrow late morning/early afternoon.

Exactly....

Hi again E'sD and Woodleigh. No - they are applied and undone with a male Torx tool that fits a hexagonal drive socket for a ratchet spanner - I am looking for the Torx bolts that require an E12 socket that is a direct fit onto a ratchet spanner as in the attached image.
