Hello

We have a 2002 C220 CDi. It has 82k on the clock. We just brought it over a month ago have have noticed that when we go over a bump in the road or a pot hole there is a noticeable knock/clonk sound that comes from the front drivers side wheel.

We had the car serviced and were told that the front drop link needs replacing. This was done and the old part did have a lot of play.

This unfortunately has not resolved the noise. Do you have any ideas as to what else it may be.

We rocked the car and there is no knocking sound coming from the front.

The noise only comes from the drivers side. I have had a look on the forum and wanted to know if it could be the anti roll bar bushes. As seen here.

Hello

Thank you for the quick response. I shall have a look to see the movement in the front wheel when the car has been jacked up. I shall compare that to the passenger side and post an update in the evening.

Thanks

Possible worn torque arm bushes, these are the most common bushes to wear.

Hey Malcolm, sorry to bother. Did you by any chance find a part number for the kit on rear lights? Many thanks. EJ

I do not have access to the EPC until a few days, it is a dealer part and the dealer will know

Could be the track rod has play in it... if it becomes worn enough then it will be very flimsy and allow it to knock. They also build up rust when they become loose behind the ball joints.

In order to get it off you need to remove the steering gaitor (boot) from the rack, and you'll see it's screwed into the internal ram of the rack. If you take that off you can possibly get a replacement of send it to us and we'll rectify any issues with it and send it back good as new :)

Try Euro's though, they can normally source steering track rods.

They are easy to change, the bolts holding them on can rust, so slacken them and spray some WD40 into the thread and do them up again, then remove

It does not take long with the right tools, so that cost will not be too much

Sounds very familiar indeed. At present I'm having some work done on my 203 and had exactly the same noise from driver side when going over bumps/potholes.

I needed to have a spring replaced which had broken and next week i'm having a swing arm replaced also. Havn't been out in car since to find any big potholes to test i out on yet but I'll let you know when I do...
