My boss has a c class coupe with the 220 diesel. brand new in 2002.

Apparently, it sometimes refuses to start; all the lights come on, glow plug light goes off, but the starter doesn't even try to turn over. Complete silence. If she leaves it 15 minutes it might start.

Good old intermittent problem that is verging on the mittent, if you get my drift...

Seems to happen more if its cold. Full dealer service history, done 58K, nearly all motorway.

Any thoughts / guidance ?

220 Cdi

Hi

It may be the starter motor. I had a problem were the starter motor fuse kept blowing. Merc did not locate the problem. After the warranty ran out the starter motor failed, and the car would not start (£300).

I would take it to the dealer and make sure that you have it looked at, get it recorded to confirm that they have checked it incase it does go. It may save you £300.

Could possibly be a bad earth to the starter solenoid.
Try a quick rap on the solenoid with a stick.
(It used to work on my old Scimitar!)

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
I recently had a brand new C220CDi demonstator for a few days that did that. I got out, locked and unlocked the car, and it was fine. I only thought to do this because I used to have a Peugeot 406 that did the same every now and again. I assume it was a fault in the immobiliser.
