Could someone help me with a query, please.

I have bought a 2005 W203 C Class 220 CDi and whilst there is nothing wrong with the vehicle I can always remember my father taking the wheel bearings out of successive VW cars and regreasing them every six months or so as a preventative maintainance measure.

Can you take them out of the front and rear of the MB and regrease them or are they of the sealed type?

Thank you

You can, but i wouldnt, if there is no play and they are smooth when spun then leave them alone, the old saying, if it isnt broke then.............

I couldn't agree more. The chances of introducing some dirt or contamination that will ruin the bearings in no time are, alas, quite high. Leave well alone unless you have to.

As a slightly tangential aside, I have long followed this shrewd advice from the Foreward of the service manual for the AEC Mandator;

"Apart from certain essential adjustments and periodical routine maintenance recommended, a vehicle that is performing satisfactorily should not be tampered with. A necessary adjustment, however, should never be neglected and should receive attention immediately."

When I was small I planted a potato,,but I dug it up everyday to see if it was growing, alas it never did grow, and I should have left it alone
