One of my two keys is playing up, and I'm not sure why. It will not lock or unlock the car, but will start the engine. It's not the batteries, which was my first thought - so I changed them for new, checked the voltage of both old and new (both were fine!) abd still nothing. I also swapped the "battery holder" parts of the 2 keys over - the other key worked fine with either battery holder, but the faulty key will not lock or unlock the car with either battery holder!

Anyone got any ideas of how I can correct this problem?

Thanks!

First thing, check if its doing anything. Press the button whilst looking at the Ir transmitter on the end of the key with a digital camera (phone camera will do the trick). The camera will pick up the light, if its coming on.

also check the IR function by pointing directly at the drivers door IR sensor, these keys use both radio and infared.

Learn something new every day - was not aware of this, tried it with the faulty key, nothing. Tried it with the working key - blue light visible on camera screen. So no, the light is not coming on.

Assuming the sensor is the little black rectangle just back from and slightly below the lock, then no, it's not doing anything when I put the key close to it (or, for that matter, anywhere else close to the drivers door) and press either of the 2 buttons.

Malcolm,

I appreciate your offer and may well have to take you up on it - but will try all other avenues before bothering you further. As you can see, 2 other helpful members have also replied - but first efforts have been unsuccessful!

Thanks again,

Chris

The key has two locking systems,,it sends out RF for the long range and IR for the short range,,if one stops they often both stop

Both have indeed stopped - can't lock or unlock the car irrespective of distance, whether right next to the sensor or here at my desk - whereas the working key will lock and unlock the car from here at my desk as well as close up. Having read a few other threads about key problems, my wallet is starting to get palpitations! At least I still have one working key!
