w203 towbar

hi i am fitting a towbar to my w203 saloon and have bought a wiring kit from the dealer which has a bypass relay which needs a 12v permanant live is there any where in the fuse box in the boot that i can take a feed from

Fuse 18 in the rear box is for the Tow Bar,,and fuse 17 is the trailer recognition circuits

do you know where i can get wiring diagram of rear lights as i am having trouble identifying which wire does what

That is not easy,, what I do is to say turn on the side lamps, and push a pin into each wire till I find the live one.

yes my usual method stick test lamp in each one in turn untill all identified but it wont work this time

It can often be hard to get a good ground/ earth connection and I would extend the neg lead of the test lamp and fit a crocodile clip to go onto a ground point elswhere.


I will try and look up the colour of the wires,,but not my good point

permanent live? do you have a caravan? usually only need that for caravans etc. single plugs are for lights only applications (trailerboards etc)
